Accreditation is based on conformance to ISO/IEC 17021-1. International Accreditation Bodies like ANAB accredits Certification Bodies (CBs) that demonstrate competence to audit and certify organizations conforming with management system standards. Accreditation by ANAB ensures the impartiality and competence of the CB and fosters confidence and acceptance of the CB's certifications by public and private sector end users. The Accreditation Bodies like ANAB operate according to ISO 17011, and then audit the CBs against ISO 17021 to ensure that ISO 9001 and related management system certifications are only issued in an objective and trusted manner. ANAB issues accreditation symbols to accredited conformity assessment bodies (laboratories, certification bodies, forensic service providers, inspection bodies, etc.) to indicate their accredited status. An organization considering certification wants to know about the reputation and competence of the CB it selects. The organization wants assurance that the CB is competent to evaluate its systems and that, no matter where they're located, customers will value the CB's judgment. ANAB with its international reputation provides just that to the CBs, thereby also providing added value to the organizations that these ANAB accredited CBs certify. BSI, the ISO Certification Body for ACT is accredited by ANAB.

International Accreditation Forum (IAF)

Its primary function is to develop a single worldwide program of conformity assessment which reduces risk for business and its customers by assuring them that accredited certificates may be relied upon. Accreditation assures users of the competence and impartiality of the body accredited. The primary purpose of IAF is two-fold. Firstly, to ensure that its accreditation body members only accredit bodies that are competent to do the work they undertake and are not subject to conflicts of interest. The second purpose of the IAF is to establish mutual recognition arrangements, known as Multilateral Recognition Arrangements (MLA), between its accreditation body members which reduces risk to business and its customers by ensuring that an accredited certificate may be relied upon anywhere in the world.
ANAB is a founding member of the IAF.
What is the role of IAF?
A - IAF is a global network of accreditation bodies and other organisations involved in conformity assessment activities. Its key roles include:
- to maintain and expand the Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA), between accreditation body members, with the aim of reducing risk to business and its customers and ensuring that an accredited certificate may be relied upon anywhere in the world;
